How this works
Short on purpose
This guide has been written from Hobart since 2019 by two writers and a photographer. It lists nineteen places and it is not trying to list more.
Why nineteen
Length is the easiest thing to add to a travel guide and the least useful. A list of four hundred properties tells you that four hundred properties exist, which you already knew. Our rule is that an entry earns two hundred words or it is not an entry, and two hundred words is enough space that a weak choice becomes obvious while you are writing it.
Nineteen is what is left after that rule has been applied for seven years. It has been higher and it has been lower. When something new goes in, something already there has to still make sense, and three properties have come off the list rather than sit in it as filler.
Who does this
Two writers and a photographer, working from Hobart. One writer covers the Australian chapters, the other covers the international ones, and the photographer travels for the chapter that is being re-checked that quarter.
We do not publish staff photographs or personal profiles. The work is the entries.
Where our details come from
Operators’ own websites and published material, architectural writing in trade and general press, and public records where a building has a documented history.
We describe buildings. We do not publish accounts of staying in them, we do not quote guests, and we carry no reviews or ratings of any kind. Where a fact could not be confirmed from a published source, it is not on the site.
Our rules

What we have corrected
March 2026
We had described a Sydney capsule property under a trading name it no longer used. The entry now carries the current name and a note that the format changes hands often.
November 2025
An ice entry showed a season starting in November. The operator publishes a mid-December start, and the month bar was corrected.
June 2025
A chapter introduction implied that we had stayed at the properties described. It was rewritten. We describe buildings from published sources and we do not publish stay reports.
